Professor Laurie Essig Granted Tenure

Sociology/Women and Gender Studies Professor Laurie Essig announced today, in a blog post in The Chronicle, that last week she was granted status as a tenured Middlebury faculty member.

The long awaited decision comes almost three years to the day when MiddBlog first reported on Essig’s denial of pre-tenure and the student petition and outrage that followed.

In her blog post, Essig conveys her joy over the decision while also taking an analytical look at the principle of tenure. She calls for a change in the tenure practices of higher education institutions all over the country.

Tenure Letters are for Professors what Admissions Decisions are for Students
